Maiden High School is a public high school located in the town of Maiden, NC. Maiden has a population of approximately 3,400 people. The original high school was founded in 1953 and was located in the building which now houses Maiden Middle School. In the summer of 2005, a new high school was built after school lines were redrawn. At that time, our student body increased by more than 200 students and our current student body is made of up of students from Maiden and Newton, NC. MHS is part of the NCHSAA and is part of the Catawba Valley 2A Athletic Conference.

Maiden High School is one of six public high schools in Catawba County. Three elementary, one middle, and one high school make up the feeder district. The school curriculum is planned to meet the varied needs of our student body using block scheduling. The school offers regular, honors and advanced placement classes as well as seven different vocational programs. The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement.

Our school focuses on high expectations for academic, personal, social, and emotional growth, ensuring that students graduate college- and career-ready. Whether students are at a desk, in a lab, or on a stage, Maiden High School prepares them not only with the knowledge to face the next step in life but the confidence to pursue dreams.

Maiden High School supports 24 clubs and student organizations as well as 31 athletic teams, an Air Force JROTC unit, marching band, color guard, concert choir, and theatre program. The Maidonian, our yearbook, is published by the journalism classes. Our mascot is the Blue Devil.

We strive for academic excellence, which is why we take the grade we receive on our NC School Report Card (an annual statewide measure of school performance) seriously. In addition, we submit our School Improvement Plan for review and approval as required by state regulations, and our team revises that plan’s goals and strategies regularly.
North Carolina Department of Public Instruction provides its own "report card" about public schools in North Carolina. Report cards are released annually with a snapshot of each school - including student performance, class size, attendance, school safety, instructional resources, and teacher quality in our schools. Additionally, each school in the state receives a letter grade of A, B, C, D or F.

To assign an overall school performance grade, which is comprised of 80% proficiency and 20% growth, the state uses end-of-grade testing in elementary and middle schools and end-of-course exams plus other indices such as ACT scores, graduation rates, a measure of math rigor, WorkKeys scores, and EL progress. While proficiency demonstrates a student’s performance level in a subject area, growth measures the amount of academic progress a student makes over the course of a year or class.

We believe that the key to making education better at our school is to consistently analyze what we're doing well and and to look for ways we can improve. Like all schools in our district, we have a team of people who meet regularly to discuss ideas for improving our school and teaching methods. Our team also meets to discuss concerns and issues pertaining to our students, teachers, and staff.

All North Carolina Schools are required to submit a School Improvement Plan (SIP) to the local board of education for review and approval is required by state regulations. Yearly, the team revises our School Improvement Plan which outlines goals and strategies.

We utilize a web-based school improvement planning tool called NCStar. NCStar contains over 100 research-based effective practices (indicators) that we personalize to meet our school's and district's needs.

We invite you to view our SIP on NCStar. It is view-only, but allows "real-time" transparency of our school improvement plan process to everyone - all staff, district personnel, school board members, parents, and community members.
